Kitchen Extract Assessments

Many Major Insurance companies now require both a full Risk Assessment and a regular cleaning programme of a Commercial Kitchen Extract System carried out by qualified companies.

Restaurants’, Takeaways, Public Houses, Hotels, Nursing Homes and Residential Care Homes or any owner/operator of any food related business have a duty to keep premises and equipment in a clean and hygienic condition as set out in The Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995, without a risk assessment undertaken of your kitchen extract system.

By using a qualified Kitchen Extract Risk Assessing Service you are working towards compliance with the Fire Reform (Fire Safety) 2005 “whereby in order to safeguard the safety of relevant persons the responsible person must ensure that the premises and any facilities, equipment and devices provided are subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.”

Kitchen Extract systems require a very different testing procedure to HVAC Systems as both grease & carbon can develop over time and can become a significant fire risk if these substances are not located and then removed by deep cleaning.

The initial part of your kitchen extract risk assessment is by way of a visual inspection. ERA Risk Assessment Officers make a visual survey of the external surfaces of ductwork including Access Doors & Seals, Cowling and Canopy, checking for any external damage or grease leaks. Our Risk Assessment Officers then carry out internal CCTV surveys which allows images of grease & carbon that has developed over time in the ductwork to be photographed and uploaded to our Rapid Risk Assessment Monitoring Software – RRAMS.

Assessments are then made of the workings of Fire Dampers, Smoke Dampers, Sensors, Fan bearings, Fan Blades, Cowling & Grilles and any grease accumulation that can reduce their working capability.

The next step of our assessment procedure is the Industry recognised Wet Film Thickness Test - WFTT which is used to ascertain the amount of grease that is in the duct system. All results are recorded as part of our Rapid Risk Assessment Management System – RRAMS, which puts you, the client in control of your Kitchen Extract System.

Essential Risk Assessments help you the client to comply with HVCA TR/19 Standard and the current British Standard BSEN 15780 : 2011
